The eagerly anticipated McCambridge Duffy Open for Ladies and Gents was the Friday competition at City of Derry’s Open Week. Once again the weather gods looked kindly on the North Of Ireland’s golfing gem and a large field of competitors were presented with a superb test of golf prepared by Head Greenkeeper Connor McLaughlin and his team.

By the end of play it was one-handicapper Mr Ernie Heywood who accounted for first prize in the fast running conditions of the day. Out in 34 shots for an opening 20 points he added only a further 35 on the return journey for a Stableford score of 37 points for his one-under(69) best gross round of the day. Mr Kevin Cassidy(20) finished a mere shot further back on 36 points to take second prize while Mr Barry McMenamin(17) and Mr Gary McDaid equalled that score but were relegated to third and fourth place respectively on break-of-tie. Mr McDaid, in particular, will be smarting somewhat after throwing points away over the last four holes as if they were only the popularity poll points of a Brexit Chancellor!

The best visitor of the day was Mr Paul O’Doherty on 34 points and the best of the ladies was Ms Rosaleen McAnulla, The Front Nine Prize went to hard working Honorary Treasure Mr Rob Jefferson with 20 points while Mr Ryan Rutherford carded the same score to lift the Back Nine Prize.
