Williamson Tops Sunday Society.

Stephen Williamson(18) captured his first Sunday Society win this week with a fine 34 points.  Back-to-back four pointers on holes 12 and 13 were the key to his success in what was an impressively consistent round of golf. Kevin Green(12) followed him home with 33 points to take second place and Ryan Rutherford(14) took third place when he emerged from a four way break-of-tie as having the best back nine. John Chambers(8), Paul McIntosh(9) and Martin McCormick(13) were the other players on 32 points who had to be satisfied with fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively.

If there is one lesson to be learned from the weekend’s competitions is that golfers need to adopt the “Santa Christmas List Principle” when it comes to entering their cards. “Mark your card and check it TWICE” is the season’s motto as two players were disqualified over the weekend due to avoidable errors with their cards. One, Gary McDaid, noticed too late that a wrong score was recorded in the Saturday competition and his disqualification resulted in missing out on a visit to the winners’ circle and his team tumbling down the Desmonds Ford Motor Stores Winter League standings. The second player to lose out was Kevin Cassidy who would have claimed second place on Sunday but for the lack of a marker’s signature on his well-compiled score. No presents this year from either player to their respective markers!
