Barrett on Song in Thursday Society.

This week’s Thursday Society at City of Derry Golf Club was a hard fought affair but it was the toughness of Kevin Barrett(12) that ultimately took him over the finishing line in first place. Kevin set a blistering pace over the front nine where he amassed 22 points and he kept up the pressure by adding a further 14 points on the closing holes to win by a margin of two from his nearest challengers. Three of the chasing pack finished on 34-point totals and the break-of-tie rules were called upon to decide the places. With only three prizes on offer there was always bound to be one unlucky player and on this occasion that player was Pat McAllister. Pat’s game has been on fire over recent weeks and he has challenged several times. On Thursday he powered to a fine 21 point total on his outward journey and looked to have the competition sown up until an ugly 8 at the last hole brought him low and he was eliminated from the prizes when a simple bogey would have seen him top the table. Alastair Duncan(13) finished in second place on 34 points but he will rue the simple mistake at the short Par 4 6th,” Swilken” which halted his momentum and perhaps cost him the competition. Third place went to Seamus Given(14) with his steady round of 34.
