Donnell Wins

The frosty conditions took their toll on the Saturday Stableford at City of Derry as the late start much reduced the competitive field. When the hardy golfers eventually sought sanctuary from the biting wind and assembled in the cosy clubhouse for a warm welcome from Ciara and hot discussion about the rugby it was Jason Donnell(10) who found he had performed best in the trying conditions. Jason’s round of 32 points for the fifteen competition holes was a model of consistency apart from the aberration at the eighteenth where he failed to record a score. Because of that slip he needed the break-of-tie rules to come to his rescue when Prehen’s Most Improved Player of 2016Mark Sheridan(6) – carded the same score. Mark’s round yo-yoed between excellence and mediocrity as he dropped expected shots at one, four and nine but found a fine birdie three at the tricky Par 4 5th, “The Gap” where many a golfer’s card is consigned to the wastebin! However, consistency triumphed over raw enterprise and Mark had to be content with second place!
