The Keating Amenity Solutions Open was the Saturday competition on the Prehen course this week. Scoring was hot throughout the day with a host of players returning scores above 39 points for their efforts.

Late-starter Mr Gary Leckey(12) nipped in to steal first prize from the early players with a well-compiled 43 points. Playing in the cooler evening conditions Mr Leckey took advantage of the absence of showers to roar to the turn with a 21 point score before adding a further 22 points on a return journey that included birdies at twelve and eighteen for a finishing 43 point winning score. Mr Kevin Green(16) compiled a  41 point score to grasp second place. A birdie at the difficult Par 4 second, “The Valley” set him up fro a fine 22 point outward journey. And everything was steadiness over a consolidating back nine until a failure to record a single point at the difficult Par 4 17th brought an end to his challenge for top honours.

Mr Jonathan Montgomery(21) was the best of a host of players on 40 points and he took third place after the Break-of-tie calculations were completed. But, those like Mr Eamon McCourt who were beaten in that break-of-tie battle can take solace from the fact that it was a superb 25-point back nine tally by Mr Montgomery that brought him to the fore! Mr Lester Moore(1) lifted his second Gross Prize of the week with 36 points. On this week’s showing the race to amass the record for capturing Gross Prizes at Prehen looks to have slipped in favour of a younger generation with Mr Moore and Mr Lindsay showing strongly in recent competitions and Mr Heywood slipping slightly! Only the summer will tell!
