Storey’s Happy Ending!

Sunday’s unexpectedly miserable weather was the story on the weekend but it  was a story which had a happy ending for one golfer who braved the elements and proved that he is a wet weather performer to be contended with. Andrew Storey(12) carded 36 points to lift the first prize in this week’s foul weather Sunday Society. Andrew’s twenty-one point tally on the front nine included a birdie three at the tricky Par 4 5th, “The Gap”. He finished the run home by adding a further 15 points to post a 36 point total and claim a win by a single shot. A break-of-tie was needed to decide the next two places when Tom Stephenson(18 and Kevin Green(11) returned 35 pointers apiece. Despite recording a couple of four-pointers on his card Kevin will rue the uncharacteristic blank he fired at the easy Par 4 10th, “Spires” where any score would surely have given him overall victory. As it was Tom lifted the second prize and Kevin was relegated to third place.

No fewer than four players recorded 34 pointers to challenge for the minor places. With only three prizes available one was always bound for disappointment despite scoring well in the conditions. On this occasion it was John Houston(16) who was the first eliminated. That left a straight fight between Dennis O’Connell (18), Robert Mitchell(14) and the resurgent Fredrick Stuart(20). After the BOT rules were applied Robert took fourth, Fredrick took fifth and Dennis lifted the sixth prize on offer.
