Armstrong Powers to Fine Win in Sunday Society!

As various professional golfers are prone to say, ”My game has been TRENDING to a win!” So was the case with Mr Malachy Armstrong this week in Prehen’s Sunday Society. Mr Armstrong has been just out of the prizes for several weeks and made a spirited attempt to get in the winner’s circle on Saturday before his challenge disappeared the with the fading light. However, with an earlier start in his favour on Sunday he carded an outward nine of 21 points and followed that up with seventeen points over the closing holes to win by a single shot from Mr Fred Young (8). Steady play was the order of the day for Mr Armstrong but quality shots at the “interesting’ Par 4 5th, “Swilken” and the difficult Par 4 13th,”Foyle” produced matching four-pointers and more or less electrified Mr Armstrong’s game! Mr Young also recorded a four-pointer, his came at the difficult Par 4 4th, “The Whins”, and that allowed him to record 22 points for the front nine. But, despite steady play, only fifteen points could be added on the closing holes and, on 37 points, second place was a just reward for yet another great round of golf. Mr Ciaran Grant (21) again landed a podium finish when his fine 36 points was enough to gain third place. It took a break-of tie to decide the other three prizes on offer when five players carded 33-point totals. Mr Andy McFaul (8) was the first eliminated when his back nine was found wanting, Honorary Secretary Mr Shane Kelly was the next weakest link when his back nine was judged inferior, Club Treasurer Mr Rob Jefferson had done his addition correctly but had to be content with six place, Mr John Flynn (8) found that his 33 points was the real deal and landed fifth spot while Mr John Woods (12) was delighted that his stroll around the course was enough to capture fourth spot with his 33 point tally.
