Victory for McIvor

Basil McIvor(20) survived a bit of  a disaster this week when he won the Thursday Society Outing at Prehen. Everything was perfect as Basil cruised round the first eleven holes played carding 28 points as he went. Two bogeys was a fair result for the carelessly played tenth and eleventh holes but, with victory in sight, the wheels came off the well oiled machine and Basil blanked the easy Par 3 12th.”Billy’s”! But a bogey on the difficult Par 4 13th, “ Foyle” allowed him to add a much needed three points and finishing on a 35 point total he registered his first victory of the year.

In hot pursuit was the Prehen organisational dynamo that is Eamon McCourt(8) who played a just above par round to record 34 points to claim second place. Sorting out the other places required the services of the much maligned tie-break rules when Alaistair Duncan(11), George Phillips(13) and John Parke(19) each carded 33 point totals. Alistair will be the man with the most tales of woe to tell as he blanked both the Par 4 11th and the tiddler that is 17b when easily attained bogeys at both would have given him overall victory. As it was, he will feel that he let “one get away” as he was relegated to fifth place behind George, who captured fourth in fine style, and John, who took third prize despite blanking the eighteenth! Robin McClay(11) revived his flagging golfing fortunes to finish on 32 points and prop up the prize-winners having survived his own B.O.T with the unfortunate John Wood(9) who went home prizeless yet again despite a pretty steady round of golf.

Results Clive Brolly. Competitions committee.
