Tigerish Woods Thursday Society Display

On a brutal day for golf, when the wise stayed at home and only the hardy –or foolhardy - took their clubs from the garage, it took dedication and fight to overcome the challenges presented at Prehen in this week’s Thursday Society! The man with the “Eye of the Tiger” soundtrack running through his head this week was Mr John Woods (11) who carded a fighting 37 points to just shade the second place finisher by a single point. Mr Woods seemed to have everything under control when he shot 22 points on the front nine but an ugly blank at the tricky Par 4 11,”’Prehen” cast doubt on the possible result. However, he quickly recovered by birdying the difficult Par 3 12th, “Billy’s” for a four-pointer to steady the ship and put the result beyond doubt. Meantime, Mr Jason Donnell (13) was also punching above his weight given the brutal conditions. Out with 20 points for his front nine Mr Donnell was making light of the rain and biting winds but carding only 16 points over the closing holes left him a single point short and he had to be content with second place. A long way back in third place was thirteen-handicapper Mr James Desmond who could only muster 30 points despite steady play. Yet again the difficult Par 4 11th, “Prehen” proved pivotal as Mr Desmond failed to register a point and halted what had been a run of impressively steady play. Still, roll on next week when the weather will be calm, the sun will shine, the fairways will be their plush selves, the greens will be receptive…… and, sure, Christmas is only a few weeks away!
