Johnston Tops Saturday Stableford

On yet another spectacular Autumn day at Prehen when the sun kissed the fairways its rays also warmed the golf game of twenty-five handicapper Mr Adrian Johnston who carded 42 points to snatch first place on break-of tie from Mr Liam Reddin. Mr Johnston had a steady start to his game and when he carded a four-point par at the tricky Par 4 5th,”The Gap” things were certainly set fair for a big score. However, an ugly eight at the relatively easy Par 5 7th,”Dermot’s” pegged back his enthusiasm and he finished the front nine with a mere seventeen points on the card. The disappointment of those closing front nine holes spurred Mr Johnston on and, in a back nine that included four pointers at eleven and fifteen, he returned a splendid 25 points. Sixteen handicapper Mr Liam Reddin was steadiness itself as he compiled equal halves of 21 points for his 42 point total but he had to be content with second place given Mr Johnston’s fireworks on the back nine! Messrs Michael Feeney, Gerry Cleary and Norman Kane all carded respectable score of 40 points but the break-of-tie fell for Mr Kane who consequently lifted the third available prize. Mr Ernie Heywood(0) lifted the Gross Prize with 34 points.
