Martin McCormick (15) was the proud first winner of the inaugural Barney McDaid Open. Sponsored by the late Barney's family the competition was held to honour the memory of a wonderful person and the big record entry certainly reflected the esteem in which Barney was held by all and sundry. Martin scored 43 points even after blanking two holes on the front nine. He was followed home in close order by Gareth Reid (11) who finished on 42 points. Third place went to Eric Watson (16) who scored 41 points, a magnificent performance when you consider that his finishing holes were played in the worst of weather. The front nine went to John Gallagher (20) with 23 points and once again special credit to John whose round was also completed in a heavy rain shower. Martin Doherty (prehen) (20)  took home the back nine prize with 22 points on a count back and Ernie Heywood (1) was the leading low handicapper on 35 gross points. Spanish Tour stalwart Stephen Wray (11) playing out of Portadown took the best visitors prize with 39 points. Noteworthy also was the great turnout of the Spanish Tour, with which the late Barney had been associated for many years. Prize were presented by Jim McDaid son of the great man, and Barney's daughter Lynn and granddaughter Laura also attended the prize giving.
