Kerrigan Just Edges it!

As the rays of spring sunshine kissed the Prehen fairways on Saturday it was John Kerrigan(17) who was the man who made the first hay of the year! Nineteen points on his outward journey was a good indication to his playing partners that his game was in fine fettle since the score contained only a single “double”, taken at the difficult Par 4 2nd, “The Valley”, which has brought many a prospective decent card to premature grief. Four pars and five bogies over the closing holes allowed John to add a further 22 points and sign for a 41 point tally when he counted his card on the sun scorched clubhouse benches! Given that the course, with the tees placed so far back and the fairways in early spring conditions, was playing at its longest of the year to date forty-one points represented a fine score. Robert Mitchell(16) almost managed to match that score as he powered home with 23 points over the closing holes but the uncharacteristic blank at the relatively easy Par 5 4th, “Longfellow” meant that he could only record a forty point total and had to be content with second place. Les Dickson, Adrian Johnston, Richard Lavery and Kevin Green all put in creditable performances with equal 39-point tallies but the third prize went to twelve-handicapper Kevin Green on a break-of-tie.
