The ever popular Sam Smallwoods Professional prize for Ladies and Gents gave rise to the season’s stand-out score when Mr Peter Villa(11) put on a performance that included three birdies and thirteen pars and resulted in a fabulous 48 point tally! 22/26 was the split of the score in this blemish-free round that must now mark him as a real contender for this year’s Captain’s Prize in just over seven days time when he will exercise his brand-new eight handicap for the first time. On any other day Mr Michael Lynch(20) would have expected his fine 43 points to be the winning score but, on this occasion, he had to be satisfied with second spot. The ever-green talents of Mr Ciaran Burke(14) were enough to amass 42 points and take third spot while Mr Arthur O’Hara(13) grabbed fourth prize with a steady 41 points. Mr Aldwyn Leckey’s 39 points, playing off a twelve handicap, was good enough for fifth slot. Ms Kathy Jackson took the Ladies’ Prize, Vice-Captain Mr Michael Carroll lifted the Front Nine prize with 21 points and Mr James Desmond lifted the Back Nine Prize with 22 points.
