Count on Jefferson!

The Sunday Society this week was played in glorious conditions on a windless day of the type golfers yearn for when they dream of golfing nirvana. Club Treasurer Rob Jefferson(12) made the most of the benign conditions as he amassed 21 points over the opening holes. Rob looked to have the round of the year within his grasp until a complete and unexpected collapse on the Par 4 home hole, ”Journey’s End” resulted in an ugly nought on his card and he had to be satisified with a 41-point total. Despite that blip in his fortunes Rob still clung on to win by two shots from fifteen-handicapper Jonathan Barnaby. Jonathan will, at this point, be regaling his acquaintances with a story of the one that got away. Given that his card harbours three single pointers and two no-scores he is right in all the tales he will tell but, be warned those who listen, no words of consolation, however kindly offered, may be capable of healing the disappointment of this round gone wrong! Jeremy Thatcher(17) and Brendan Duffy(10) tied on 37 points apiece with the B.O.T decision awarding third prize to Jeremy despite his failure to register any score at the easy Par 5 7th,”Dermot’s”. Honorary Secretary Shane Patrick Kelly took fifth prize with 35 points and a five way tie-break was required when Martin McCormick, Martin Doherty, Robert Glackin, Malachy Armstrong and John Houston all recorded 34 point totals. In the end Robert Glackin took the sixth prize on offer.
